Please send all notes and attendance questions to Ms. Hunt.
Attendance Matters
Regular, on time attendance to school is expected and strongly encouraged. Frequently missed real-time instruction negatively impacts students’ academic growth and achievement.
Absences
Please send all attendance correspondence, emails, and notes to pwmsattendance@ccboe.com. Do not send notes to other staff members, as they may not be received by Ms. Hunt, who is the attendance secretary. All absent notes must be received within five (5) days of the absence.
Early Dismissal Procedures
If you are picking up your student early, you must do so before 1:45 pm. When picking up your student early on early dismissal days, you must do so before 11:45 am. If arriving after 1:45 pm (or 11:45 am on early dismissal days), you must wait in the car rider line for your student to be dismissed at the scheduled dismissal time.
Anyone picking up a student for an early dismissal must come into the main office, show ID, and wait in the office for the student to arrive. Please allow adequate time for your student to be released. Your cooperation with us to ensure and maintain a safe, orderly dismissal is greatly appreciated.
Requests for an Excused Absence for an Educational Trip or Unique Life Experience
A unique life experience may include an educational field trip, athletic competitions not sponsored by the school, unique family circumstances (i.e., deployed parent visit), and/or career or alternate work experience. An educational trip is one in which either the student is actively receiving instruction through a structured program directly tied to the curriculum, or the student is actively visiting another school, program, or college in preparation for potential future enrollment. Siblings may also be excused.
A “vacation” is not an educational trip or unique life experience.
To request an upcoming absence to be excused for reasons such as these, you must complete the "Parent Request for CODE 13 Excused Absence" form below at least two weeks in advance, provide the required supporting documentation, and submit it to Principal Thenstead at wthenstead@ccboe.com. Requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are limited to five (5) days per school year.

Chronic Absenteeism
Let’s work together to reduce chronic absenteeism here at Picco. Refer to page 6 of the Parent Handbook/Calendar for more information about attendance. Additionally, please reach out to your student’s grade level administrator, school counselor, or our PPW Krysta Jones at kjones@ccboe.com for information about extended absences (longer than three days) and resources.
