Administrative Team
Principal Ms. Wualanda Thenstead was named principal of Piccowaxen Middle School in 2021. She commenced her administrative career as a vice principal in 2013 serving at Maurice J. McDonough High School, St. Charles High School (2016), and Milton M. Somers Middle School (2020) respectively. Ms. Thenstead began her work in education as a mathematics teacher in Prince George’s County, Maryland at Andrew Jackson Middle School in 2003. She joined Charles County Public Schools as a mathematics teacher at Benjamin Stoddert Middle in 2006 and later Theodore G. Davis Middle School in 2011. During her tenure as a teacher, Ms. Thenstead served as Math Department Chairperson, Extended Learning Opportunity Coordinator, EACC building representative, and wrote curriculum. As a vice principal, she was one of two vice principals selected for the inaugural class of the Governor of Maryland’s Promising Principals’ Academy. Ms. Thenstead has also served as a mentor to new vice principals. A native Oklahoman, Ms. Thenstead graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She received her Administrator I certification from McDaniel College. As principal, Ms. Thenstead will focus on building positive relationships, fostering community and a culture for teaching and learning, and preparing students for college and career/workforce. |
